Great Yarmouth is famous for its seafront amusements and attractions and its no surprise when you realise how far along the coast they stretch. And what an eclectic mix of architectural design from beautiful old buildings like the Hippodrome and that behind Caesars Palace to the neon glitz of the Golden Nugget and contemporary design of the Wellington Pier.
It is exactly this aspect of our East Coast Heritage, which has enthused students from Great Yarmouth High School’s Gifted and Talent – Art & Design Group. Students will be drawing their inspiration in particular, from the Town’s two piers. The Wellington Pier was built in 1854 and the Britannia Pier was built four years later in 1858; both have experienced an array of renovations and makeovers!
The students have already been collecting their own material about the piers (pictured here) but will also be able to use photos and stories from the Great Yarmouth Museum’s Our Great Yarmouth website (part of the Our Town Project) and Time and Tide, to guide their work.
